Unconventional Fanworks 2k19

Dear Unconventional Writing Enthusiast,

Thank you for writing or drawing for me! I am looking forward to seeing whatever you create!

I consider all prompts as optional, but I added some ideas below in case you might find them helpful. Some are longer than others, but all are things I would love to receive! If none of my prompts work for you or you’d rather just work with a likes list, please feel free to use my general likes as something you can base your fic/art on, and ignore my prompts entirely.

In fact, feel free to be creative and create what you want as long as it doesn’t cross my DNW. I love everything from G-rated gen fic to E-rated smut-bangs, so feel free to go where the spirit moves you. If you are wondering if you can twist prompts/take them in different directions/etc. the answer is always an enthusiastic yes. Whether it be something sad, scary, fun, or just plain weird, as long as it avoids my DNW I am always down to play. Whatever format you want to use, I'm down for it; that's what this exchange is made for to me so please, please do

As far as characters without defined attributes (mainly mythology and novel sources): please feel free to go wild with how you want them to look. Any skin color? Amazing, I live for alternate cultural takes on my faves. Trans or otherwise gender non-conforming? Sure! Bring it on!I love when stories have multiple versions and different takes so please change things to your hearts desire: I am here for it. Stick with whatever idea makes your story best, and I promise I will enjoy it.

Prompts:

Hadestown - Mitchell

Hades:

Hades is a character who rarely says what he is thinking, the kind of stoic male who tries to cultivate a cult of personality...without actually showing much beyond that he is big, strong, and intimidating as all hell. I'd love to see some personal correspondence from him that shows a bit more of a tender side; I'd also love to see some of the propaganda he uses in Hadestown since we only get a very small snippet of it in Why Do We Build the Wall? I'd also be fascinated to see how his worship works since we don't get a lot of information on Hades' worship as the "almighty king of the mines." In the Hadestown universe, is he a patron said as Persephone is, for certain people? Or is he, like his real-world analog, a god who was worshipped but mostly at a distance?

Favorite ships: Persephone and/or Eurydice.

In-Universe Professional and Academic Documents - Speech: I've always wanted to see what the Hadestown universe at large has to say about Hades in the timeframe that Hadestown would appear to take place in (I know, I know, don't ask why brother, don't ask how as regards the time, but: we can safely deduce its quasi-modern, with trains, so it's certainly well past the original Eurydice and Orpheus storyline in classical Greek mythology); here's this entrepreneurial badass who seems to constantly gain workers and yet anyone who goes down to him "doesn't come back" - how do people deal with the fantastical idea of Hades of Hadestown? Do people know he is a God, like, an honest-to-God God who exists and employes people? Do people think he's just a snake oil salesman who conned a bunch of people? Do people think he's a serial killer who lured a bunch of people to their deaths? Several years on from Hadestown, what sort of academic speeches are made about Hades, the person?

Alternatively, does Hades have a radio channel or any kind of interviews as regards Hadestown? He's mentioned as having clients up in the world above ("I got clients to call, I got orders to fill"), so he has to have contact with people upstairs, and his brief contact with Eurydice shows that he's willing to namedrop his home somewhat ("giving me hell down in Hades") - Do people know he's this God? What sort of speeches might he give if he had an opportunity to give one - a business club invite where he gives a brief speech about Hadestown's profits? An academic college invitation regarding how underground society? Just what exactly does he talk about, and what would he say?

In-Universe Personal Documents - Letters: Hades and Persephone don't seem to have any kind of contact during the summer beyond Hades crashing in early, and he seems so lonely that I can't imagine that he hasn't at least tried to send her a few letters. What might those letters look like? Has Seph ever sent him one in return? And does he send correspondence to anyone else? Who does he send it to? And what sort of letters might they send back?

In-Universe Personal Documents - Relationship Contract: Whether it's a literal contract with Eurydice or his hammering out his relationship details with Persephone (or with her family) via a contract/letters/etc., I'd love to see what exactly Hades would put into a relationship contract. What is important to him? Do the contract(s) get mortified over time?

In-Universe Media and Online - Propaganda Video: Look, Why Do We Build the Wall just proves Hades is a littttle bit of a peacock. There's no way that, if he has the tech available to him, he wouldn't be using film to try to make propaganda videos to keep his workers in line. What would that look like? I'd love to see a hint of what this might look like - a still of it, a transcript of a portion, etc. What might Hades offer that would make it worth giving up your very being?

In-Universe Media and Online - Recording Transcript: Again, similar to the above, I'd love to see a transcript of Hades giving some kind of public address, whether it is to the workers, or to denizens of the world above who are not (yet) his citizens. What might be the content of the speech? Is he giving a sort of speech to the workers? A speech to a bunch of academics? Businessmen? Is he called before some government body to address where all these people are who allegedly went down to Hadestown?

In-Universe Personal Documents - Diary/Journal: Hades is SO closed off emotionally, I would LOVE to see a diary that keeps, or a journal, whether it is -- even just a daily collection of things he's written (contracts? production numbers? schedules? days until Persephone comes home?). Is he more emotional in his journal/diary, something (presumably) only he could see? Does he have a structure to his entries? What might he think is worth writing down? Does he make sketches re: what he's looking at?

Style - Interactive Fiction: For all Hadestown requests, I'd love to see some exploration of the time-reset idea, where the play resets at the end to essentially replay the beginning, with only Hermes and the Fates really remembering what has happened. How do these resets happen? How does Hades deal with them? Can he break the cycle, and if so, how? I'd love to see some exploration of this repeating-of-a-story, especially if there's any deja vu, or explorations of why they feel the need to take the steps they do.

In-Universe Publication - Religious/Spiritual Text/In-Universe Publication - Religious Doctrine: I would love to see something examining the worship of Hades in the Hadestown universe. Is it well known that he's a God, with literature and worship that sees him as he is? Or is it totally off, and if so, how? (Does he have commentary on these things?) How do people examine the myths about him, or worship him? Is he being worshipped still in the Hadestown world? What sort of worship exercises might there be? If his myths/stories are inaccurate, would he ever try to raise any debate with them and what might that look like? What does the "Rape of Persephone" look like in the Hadestown world?

Persephone:

Persephone is a fascinating character mythos-wise, who seems to have a huge cult among the people of the earth as the "patroness of all this" and yet...she comes on stage to great the humans in the spring, drink in hand, saying she can only do the best she can, and you get the sense that Persephone, the Person, is quite a bit different from Persephone, the icon, and I'd love, love, love to see ANYTHING regarding that point, as well as Persephone's reaction to being considered this all-consuming seasonal goddess.

Favorite ships: Hades and/or Eurydice.

In-Universe Personal Documents - Letters: Persephone strikes me as someone who doesn't write a ton of letters, but I've love to see her try to communicate with them. Does she ever write letters to her mother or Hades when she's caught on the other side of her eternal custody battle and what might those look like? Does she ever receive letters from them and what might those letters look like? Does she ever get letters or give letters to other people in the world besides her family? Maybe reach out to Orpheus or Eurydice? What might those letters look like? Persephone's unique position makes her able to write to just about any realm - so what might she have to say?

In-Universe Media and Online - Conspiracy Theories: Persephone seems to be heavily worshipped in the HAdestown universe: Eurydice carries a candle with her on it that she lights, Orpheus calls her "the patroness of all of this" (wine and presumably, the summer), and her solo-spin in "Our Lady of the Underground" has her hyped up as "Our Lady of Ways, Our Lady of Means". That kind of all-consuming passion HAS to unleash some good conspiracy theories, and I'd love, love, love to see one of them. What nefariousness might they assign Persephone? Is some of that due to her husband? Do people have conspiracy theories about their relationship?

In-Universe Media and Online - Recording Transcript: I'm not sure how Persephone would wind up giving a recording - recording something for the Hadestown workers? An interview above ground as regards summer or fall? Her just giving a speech about how things are going to change post-Hadestown (up or below, I'm not sure)? Just an accidental recording when she pressed a button while she was drunk? Listen, I just - I want a Persephone monologue. I don't care what the subject is, I just need more of her thoughts. Her voice is so, so sharp in the musical and I just want more words I can imagine amber gray growling into my ear.

In-Universe Publication - Blind Item: Persephone is so adored in the world above she MUST be recognized as a celebrity (or as a God? It's not very clear, and I'm A LOT curious as to how the Gods are viewed up top), and she's definitively had a few drunken moments, so: are there blind items about her? What might these look like? Is it due to her drinking, or the mysterious older man (or not, how known is Hades?) she's often seen with, or with Hadestown as a place? Do other characters react to these blind items and if so, how? Are they true, or are they not true? Do these blind items harm any of her relationships, or do they draw more people to her?

Style - Interactive Fiction: For all Hadestown requests, I'd love to see some exploration of the time-reset idea, where the play resets at the end to essentially replay the beginning, with only Hermes and the Fates really remembering what has happened. How do these resets happen? How does Persephone deal with them? Can she break the cycle, and if so, how? I'd love to see some exploration of this repeating-of-a-story, especially if there's any deja vu, or explorations of why they feel the need to take the steps they do.

In-Universe Publication - Religious/Spiritual Text/In-Universe Publication - Religious Doctrine: I would love to see something examining the worship of Persephone in the Hadestown universe. Is it well known that she's a Goddess, with literature and worship that sees her as she is? Or is it totally off, and if so, how? (Does she have commentary on these things?) How do people examine the myths about her, or worship her? Is she being worshipped still in the Hadestown world beyond Orpheus and Eurydice, and if so, how? What sort of worship exercises might there be? If her myths/stories are inaccurate, would she ever try to change them and what might that look like? What does the "Rape of Persephone" look like in the Hadestown world?

Hermes:

Hermes is a blatant gossip and honestly, I just want to see something where Hermes dishes on the major drama going on in the underworld to somebody, whether it be to dish out catty remarks on how Hades and Seph are being disasters or if its to try to sort of his feelings post-canon. I am also fascinated by him seeming to be the only person who might realize they're in a loop in that interpretation of the ending - if that is the case, I'd love to see any kind of non-linear narrative or interactive fiction regarding this.

Favorite ships: Open to anyone and everyone for Hermes. :)

In-Universe Personal Documents: Letters Written to Close Family/Friends Describing Juicy Gossip: I feel like Hermes is a bit of a gossip-hound in ancient Greek myth and that side of him is also present here in Hadestown. I would love, love, love to see some of his etters, especially regarding the disasters (I say with love) that are our pair of two lovers in this play are. Please, please, please give me Hermes giving the dish. What is it? Who is it going to? Is he snarky or sweet?

In-Universe Publication - Blind Item: I feel like Hermes is such a sweetheart, and really notable. Is he known as a God in the Hadestown world, or is he just a guy who looks pretty damn awesome 99.999% of the time? What sort of blind items does he have about him? Does he have any reactions to these items? If so, what?

Style - Non-Linear Narrative: I would love to see something playing with Hermes realizing that they're in a loop and trying to take little steps to move the needle one way or another as regards the outcome so they can exit the loop they seem trapped in. What sort of steps does he take? What does he do? Do any of the steps make any change?

Style - Interactive Fiction: For all Hadestown requests, I'd love to see some exploration of the time-reset idea, where the play resets at the end to essentially replay the beginning, with only Hermes and the Fates really remembering what has happened. How do these resets happen? How does Hermes deal with them? Can he break the cycle, and if so, how? I'd love to see some exploration of this repeating-of-a-story, especially if there's any deja vu, or explorations of why they feel the need to take the steps they do.

The Southern Reach Trilogy - Jeff Vandermeer

Original Female Expedition Member(s) (Southern Reach):

My favorite moment in Annihilation is when the Biologist finds all those notebooks from previous expeditions. While we focus in on her husband's expedition awfully fast in the novel, what I'd love is to see one of those journals, or a letter home, or just another trip through the eerie, eerie af landscape known as the Southern Reach.

Please feel free to go wild with your female main character - I have no preferences re: looks, trans/cis, background, etc. Go wild with what you want the OC to be. :)

Favorite ships: Whatever you want. F/F, F/M, F/Other, all good!

In-Universe Personal Documents - Diary/Journal: I just love the cold horror of someone's journal/diary where you know something beyond them is radically wrong but you just don't have the full picture (since you're so tightly locked into one -- one -- viewpoint) and you can only see the edges of the darkness in their words. Please, please give me that sweet cold horror.

Style - Epistolary: I imagine a lot of people would write to their loved ones, especially given how into writing the different groups seem to be, and how they're encouraged to keep journals. What might some of those letters look like? Would their letters change over time?

Style - Interactive Fiction: I'd love to see an interactive fiction regarding how the characters explore the shimmer. What might a different protagonists trip to the lighthouse look like? Or another part of the shimmer? What sort of things would they see - and what might happen to the original female expedition member?

逆転裁判 | Gyakuten Saiban | Ace Attorney

Mitsurugi Reiji | Miles Edgeworth:

Listen, Miles Edgeworth is a big dork and I have a huge need to see some of what goes through his head. Does he keep a scrapbook related to his cases or steel samurai episodes? Does he make sketches in his case notes? As someone with a taste for the fine things in life...has he ever tried to adapt some of the events in his life to a play or opera, or, worse, have to see someone else do one?

Favorite ships: I'm open to just about anyone and everyone for Miles. If you've got a good idea, go for it!

Written Work - Description of Canon as Adapted to Play or Opera: Miles is a fan of high theater, and I'd love to see what he might think of some event in his life being made into an Opera. It isn't hard to imagine the Von Karma stuff going into an Opera (or at least inspiring one!), and I'd love to see what mixed feelings Miles might have: are these accurate? Who wrote them (oh gosh please do/don't be Larry)? Does it make him remember things he'd rather forget?

In-Universe Personal Documents - Scrapbook Page(s): Miles is a big old Steel Samurai nerd and I absolutely believe he would have a Steel Samurai scrapbook where he (and perhaps Maya?) go through all the episodes and make commentary. Alternatively, I'd love to see what sort of scrapbook he might keep of his cases, because he was, after all, raised as a Von Karma, and Von Karma's have Perfect Records: Did he ever make a book of his first few cases (or did the Von Karma's)?

In-Universe Personal Documents - Artwork: Miles is so thoughtful and I think he is someone for whom painting would be a fun hobby. What sort of things might he paint? Does he ever use human models, and if so, do they know? What might have brought him to take up that hobby? Alternatively: Any images Larry Buttz painted of Miles during his "artiste" phase. Alternatively: any family photos of Miles with the Von Karma clan (Manfred and/or Franciszka) or with his dad or with Phoenix? Artwork drawn for him by Pearl/Trucy?
