Yuletide 2018
Dearest Secret Santa,
Thank you for writing for me! I am looking forward to seeing whatever you create!
I consider all prompts as optional, but I added some ideas below in case you might find them helpful. Some are longer than others, but all are things I would love to receive!
Please feel free to use my general likes as something you can base your fic/art on, and ignore my prompts entirely if they're not doing it for you. In fact, feel free to just write something based on what you want as long as it doesn’t cross my few DNW. I love everything from G-rated gen fic to E-rated full on smut-bangs, so feel free not to hold back on my account. If you are wondering if you can twist prompts/take them in different directions/etc. the answer is always yes. Whether it be something sad, scary, fun, or just plain weird, as long as it avoids my DNW I am always down to play.

Prompts:
龍が如く | Ryuu ga Gotoku | Yakuza (Video Games)
龍が如く | Ryuu ga Gotoku | Yakuza (Video Games)
Majima Goro, Makimura Makoto, Yuki
(Note: At the time of writing this sign up, I have only played Yakuza 0, but I am working my way through the series as a whole and will have ideally made it through by Yuletide reveals. Most of my sign-up has a 0 focus but I am open to post-0 works as well!)
Please see letter for general likes.
Majima: This man broke my heart. He's got such a firm conscience through so much of Yakuza 0, only to throw it away at the very end and instead chooses to live in a rather nihilistic way. With his backstory, we know that he has been broken before, and his ability to heal only gets worse as time goes on. He's been dealt so many bad hands in 0: his sworn brother, his year in the hole, and then the whole mess with Makoto and Lee and Sagawa and Sera, that for all that he becomes a much more silly character with the trash leopard print jacket and the bowl cut hair, I'm fascinated by the fact he's "more" damaged than ever. And yet: he survives. He lives longer than Sagawa, than Lee, than Nishitani. He seems very dedicated to the "live fast, die young" philosophy and I'd love to see how that determines what he does between Yakuza 0 and 1, or even later in the series.
Makoto: There's so much potential for Makoto that I feel goes under-utilized in Yakuza. She is someone with an incredibly heartbreaking backstory and I'd love to see something that dealt with her complicated racial background of being the daughter of an abandoned Japanese woman in China. Her Chinese name, Xiao Qiao, is (I think?) a reference to Romance of the 3 Kingdoms and I'm curious what the meaning behind that might be. She feels like she has always been between cultures, and she's been taken advantage of in Yakuza so badly. I would also love to see something that explores her blindness and slow journey to being able to see again - how does she re-learn to navigate the world? How does she come to find herself working with a doctor at the end of 0 and how does she get past the pain of losing her brother, Lee, and Majima all at once?
Yuki: I loved Yuki during the Cabaret club minigame, but I felt a bit bad for her because she is always the butt of every joke. I would love to see how Yuki deals with this -- does she ever confront Majima or Youda about the fact they constantly forget about her (though her substory shows they definitively do care about her, also)? Is she secretly the glue that keeps the entirety of Club Sunshine running? How does she handle the club once Majima leaves at the end of 0? How does she feel about the other girls who come to the club where she is the star? What is she using all that vinegar for?
Majima and Makoto and Yuri (gen): I would love to see something where Majima brings Makoto to the club in order to hide her, instead of stashing her in the Odessey storage room. How would Yuri make her feel welcome? Would a client mistake Makoto for one of the girls working at the club? Would anyone recognize her for who she really is?
Majima and Makoto and Yuri (shippy): I would love to see something where Makoto and Yuri meet up at some point (maybe Yuri goes to Makoto's massage parlor, or they're in the same club, or they just meet by happenstance?) and, after swapping notes, they absolutely figure out that Makoto's savior is Yuki's former boss, Majima. This leads the girls to try to track him down and they are both surprised by what they find: Majima, in a bad state. They decide to nurse him back to health, and their closeness gradually leads to something more than friendship.
(I would also welcome any ship with a combination of two out of the three, if you don't want to write all three!)
The Good Place (TV)
Real Eleanor Shellstrop | Vicky, Tahani Al-Jamil
(Note: At the time of writing this sign up, I have only seen up to Season 3, Episode 4: "The Snowplow" but I keep up to date on the series. You can spoil anything you wish.)
Please see letter for general likes.
Tahani: I always feel like Tahani kind of gets short shrift in terms of stories that focus on her in the show and yet she is the one who has had the most relatable background, I think, in terms of simply being a child who does not receive much love or recognition from her family. I'd love to see more stories about Tahani's time on earth: What sort of things has she done? Did her parents always prefer Kamila, or did Tahani somehow fall from grace? Does she ever go back to Pakistan or France, and what sort of adventures did she have there when she was younger? During the reboots, does she ever miss her family, or is the Bad Place a way for her to get away from them, in a way? When she was in the dozens of reboots, what sort of ways did Michael torture her? And is she bisexual? There's been plenty of hints that Eleanor is attracted to Tahani, but considerably less about Tahani being attracted to women - how would she feel about that? Especially given her background and/or family?
Vicky: I love Vicky so much. She's so ambitious and hungry to prove herself and yet her plans are so straightforward and obvious that she just screams "middle-management boss who wants to revolutionize the industry but doesn't pay attention to past data to figure out how to do that" to me. I love how she absolutely bests Michael at his own game, but also seems stuck on the same old hum-drum ideas in her industry that have been around for thousands of years. How does she fare post-Neighborhood deletion? Is she ever sent down to earth by Shawn in order to try to trap the humans? What sorts of parts has she played in the neighborhood beyond Real Eleanor?
Vicky & Tahani (gen): I would love to see Vicky's attempt to punish Tahani through being absolutely better at all of Tahani's skills than she is -- except one. Are they rivals? Does Vicky unexpectedly gain a friend in Tahani, who knows a thing or two about being underappreciated? Or does Tahani push Vicky to see herself in a new light?
Vicky & Tahani (ship): The same as above, except that the rivalry/loyalties prove unexpectedly sexual. Has Tahani ever been with a woman like Vicky before? Has Vicky ever had sex? What is it like to fuck a demon - is Vicky an unbelievably good lay, or, is it like most things in the bad place, where she is absolutely the worst? Are there feelings involved, or is this just another way to torture?
Mildred Pierce (1945)
Veda Pierce
I've always been fascinated by Veda because the movie paints her in such an unsympathetic light. Who is Veda? Why does she seem to resent Mildred and her life so much? What is it that keeps her constantly seeking more possessions, more people, more, more money, more more more? She seems to take a particular pleasure in screwing over her mother, Mildred -- why is that? What will happen to Veda during the trial for Monty's murder, or (if convicted) - what was prison like for her? How would Veda, a character from the forties, feel about the developments of later generations - would she embrace the free love ethos or scorn it? Would she enjoy the me-first 80s style? Would her story have changed had she been born in some later generation, or would Veda always be who she is?
Star Wars: Doctor Aphra (Comics)
Chelli Lona Aphra (Doctor Aphra)
Aphra is such a delightful character and I would love to see more of her adventures. I ship her with literally every woman in the entire universe and I'm all for Aphra screwing her way across the galaxy or having adventures that are slightly south of the law or just Aphra trying to survive the war. I'd really love to see something far in the future with her - does Aphra make it to the sequel trilogy era? If so, how does she deal with that time between ROTJ and TFA? How does she handle a galaxy at peace for once in her life, after being born and come of age in such chaos? Can she adjust to it? What sort of archaeological digs has she "researched"? What kind of cool Indiana Jones style booby traps has she managed to fight? Does she ever meet Vader again before his death? Does she ever get to run away and live happy with Tolvan/Sana/Anyone else?
Phantom Lady (Comics 1947)
Sandra Knight | Phantom Lady
Phantom Lady is a comics character who has had her ups and downs, but I have a soft spot for the nineteen forties version of the heroine: the debutante daughter of a Senator by day, vigilante crime fighter by night. The fact that she was doing this in the forties, at a time when women working was still something that might be thought of as unusual, is fascinating to me. I'd love to see anything about Sandra/Phantom Lady's decisions about why she became a vigilante, and how she might feel others in society would react to it: especially her outfits, which were pretty daring then and aren't exactly "demure" now. Plus, she's a heroine from the forties, so I imagine if you wanted to take her into the modern day, she's seen some stuff. What kind of tea does she have to spill? Would she still be fighting evil today, in her own way?
Rebecca (1940)
Narrator | Mrs de Winter (Rebecca 1940)
I love Rebecca's atmosphere and after watching it and Hill House, I've definitively been inspired by the moody visuals. I'd love to know what happens to the unnamed narrator in the spooky settings. I love how she is actually a bit of an ingénue for the first half of the movie, but after Max confesses his horrible crime to her, she becomes this take charge sort of woman who actually manipulates things around her in order to prevent Mrs. De winter from taking her final revenge against her husband. I would love to know just how she decides to do that, or exactly how good she is at that - twenty years down the line, would she become a new Rebecca? What else is she doing with her time? What does the new Mrs. de Winter spend her time doing, once she's broken free of Rebecca? Or is Rebecca something that no one quite breaks free from?
