Just Married Letter 2018

Thank you for writing or drawing for me! I am looking forward to seeing whatever you create!

I consider all prompts as optional, but I added some ideas below in case you might find them helpful. Some are longer than others, but all are things I would love to receive! If none of my prompts work for you or you’d rather just work with a likes list, please feel free to use my general likes as something you can base your fic/art on, and ignore my prompts entirely.

In fact, feel free to be creative and create what you want as long as it doesn’t cross my DNW. I love everything from G-rated gen fic to E-rated smut-bangs, so feel free to go where the spirit moves you. If you are wondering if you can twist prompts/take them in different directions/etc. the answer is always an enthusiastic yes. Whether it be something sad, scary, fun, or just plain weird, as long as it avoids my DNW I am always down to play.

In general, I love marriage fic and I’m thrilled that we now have an exchange for it! For me, the big interest is how the marriage – this eternal, or at least, ideally, life-long – commitment changes the characters who agree to go into it. I am all about the character growth, the realizations of how characters react to it. Does it help to strengthen their love, or does it put a strain on it? I’d love to see how the weight of the marriage presses on these characters.

Greek & Roman Mythology

Hades and Persephone rulin’ in the underworld.

Hades and Persephone's entire main myth is about their wedding, yet so much of that story feels so otherworldly and strange as we don't have a lot of the context for ancient Greek weddings. (And even with what limited records we can put together of ancient Greek weddings, we still have parts that induce a lot of questions; there are multiple books of study, just on this one myth!) Hades and Persephone's wedding have one of my favorite myths, and one thing I really love about it is how everyone in this story is coming from a different angle, and there are a lot of ways you could tell this story (no doubt part of why there are so many different versions of this story).

The situation is inherently painful; Hades is an almost desperately lonely (and cold) character who doesn't really understand how to court a woman, and abducts her from everything she's ever known to lead her to his eerie home (and I love when the underworld is a source of horror!). Persephone is a young girl who is suddenly uprooted for everything she ever knew, and is basically told by her absentee father (or her new husband-to-be!) that she's marrying a man much, much older than her, that she probably knows not well or not at all. I know there are a wide variety of potential options as far as how in love they are, and I'm fine with pretty much all of them though I'd prefer Hades not to be a cackling, evil rapist (being wrong, however, or flawed, is perfectly fine).

I am pretty loose with how the Gods look: they’re fictional characters and please feel free to write or draw them however you please. Want to make them both women? I’m down. Different ethnicities or sexualities? Go for it. Modernizing the story? Yes please! Traditional go through the classical text? Also awesome! Please write the story you want to write – I Will be there for it. Also I have to apologize, I accidentally included Mpreg in my DNW from copying from another exchange – I did not mean to select it for this exchange and in fact have an mpreg prompt for this fandom! Please do not feel afraid of writing it because I goofed up!

Blurting Out Proposal Unplanned: Myth! Hades strikes me as the sort of guy who is a very careful planner, always measure twice, cut once kind of guy, but I don’t think he’s used to social interaction and certainly not used to love. So how does he react once he uh…winds up blurting out aa proposal before even saying hi? How does she react?

Clash of customs/culture around wedding/marriage: Hades and Persephone are from two very different generations of Gods. Hades generation almost all seem to take their spouses by trickery or deception (Hera and the bird! Zeus, Amphitrite fleeing Poseidon and needing to be persuaded by the spy Delphinus in order to consent to marry him) while Persephone's generation has more mutual relationships (not entirely, but! An improvement). I imagine they come into WILDLY different ideas of a proper courtship, marriage, etc. and I think you can see some evidence of this in the tale – Hades kidnaps her at the start, but at the end, he gives more consideration to her feelings. How do they handle these different customs/cultural differences?

Courtship: Hades courtship above ground is rather…uh…abrupt. What is his courtship below like? Is Persephone frightened by this man? Intrigued? Angry? A mix of all of the above? How does he take her reactions to his “gifts"?

Dealing with In-Law(s): I would love to see anything dealing with how Hades and Demeter get along years down the line from Hades’ marriage to Persephone. Is it always awkward? Do they ever chill? How does Persephone feel about their relationship? I’d also love to see Persephone meeting Rhea as her mother in law – what would their relationship be like? Would they be familiar with one another (as Rhea is her maternal/paternal grandmother) or would Hades/Demeter have kept their distance? Would Rhea be a comforting presence or someone Persephone distrusts?

Eldritch Marriage Ritual: Marrying a death god would appear to MAKE one a death god. Does Persephone have to go through any marriage rituals to make this so? Does she start to transform into something different? Does Hades feel distressed watching her go through these changes? Or is he happy that she is becoming more like him?

Eloping due to wide disapproval of marriage partner: Hades is a LOT older than the niece he winds up marrying and it’s possible to interpret his charioteering as a kind of elopement (presuming Persephone’s consent). Id love to see what was going through either of their minds the moment they commit to this? Is this something they came up with together, or did Hades just pop up out of the ground and expect her to roll with it? Down the line, do people still disapprove of their marriage choices? (And on which side do people disapprove? Is it that she’s too young for him? He’s an old lech? He’s too cold? She’s manipulating him?)

First Anniversary: Whoof. If you go by the Homeric hymn, it’s entirely possible at a read that Persephone got tricked into being his bride by virtue of eating a snack at the wrong time; if you go by Ovid, she ate the pomegranate without knowing it signified spending half the year with her uncle (and Ovid makes it clear that Hades/Pluto pretty much has no concept of romantic feelings until Venus and Eros basically weaponize it on him). Both are what I would call sticky situations and I would love to see a snippet of that first winter for either of these stories. How does Hades/Pluto make his world comfortable for his bride? How does Persephone react to his attempts? Do these two ever quite come understand one another, that first winter? If going by Ovid, where Hades/Pluto winds up love arrowed, are there side effects of that six months of basically no contact?

First Time Living Together/Moving In Together After Wedding: I would love to see how these two both get used to uh….holy shit there’s a whole ‘nother god here and they’re going to be here for eternity. How does Hades adjust to this girl he THOUGHT he wanted only she keeps moving his stuff and eating weird things he doesn’t like and she’s got these wild ideas about what to do with their subjects that he doesn’t understand? How does Persephone deal with the underworld and this old sour guy and no, Persephone, you can’t just make a new realm because you’re bored? How do they navigate that conflict?

Getting married repeatedly: Hades and Persephone are separated every spring and reunited every fall. Do they have to undergo (or choose to undergo) some kind of marriage renewal ceremony? If so, what does that look like? Does it ever change? Is this a choice or just something they are compelled to do?

Having To Convince The Person They're Asking That Their Proposal And Feelings Are Genuine: I feel like Hades kidnapping is so abrupt that Persephone probably struggles with uh…well not being terrified of the man. Does Hades do anything to actually show her he really cares for her? Or if you want to go the other way, does Persephone propose the whole kidnapping idea to him? Why? What’s his reaction?

Historical Marriage Traditions: They uh…they’re pretty historical and def predate modern wedding traditions. I’d love to see some world building about how elements of their stories actually do come close to Athenian or Spartan weddings. Which came first, their marriage or those traditions? If they came first, how do they feel seeing mortals replicate parts of their story? If they’re replicating the mortal ways, how do they feel about that?

Honeymoon Sexual Exploration for Couple Who Had Little/No Opportunity for Sex before Marriage: Given Persephone's age and Hades' uh…opportunities…. I’d argue neither of them have a lot of sexual opportunities before one another (which isn’t to say either is a virgin per se but I think there’s a fair amount of possibility neither were racking up double digits of lovers), and their courtship is so abrupt there isn’t really time for them to have much of a relationship with one another before they’re expected to consummate it. How do they get around that? Is either nervous? Is it a good experience for them, or a horrific one, or somewhere between? I’d also really like to see a version that deals with the very asexual feels of the Ovid version of this story, where Hades/Pluto and Persephone/Proserpina are both explicitly said to have no interest in sex until Hades is nonconned into it by Aphrodite/Venus -- would they feel pressure to have sex after Persephone inadvertently eats the seeds? Do they wind up doing so or do they realize they don’t really want this, and if so, how do they come to understand their marriage without what the ancients would have thought would be a vital part of such a marriage?

Improvised Unofficial Wedding Ceremonies: Hades and Persephone have a VERY quick courtship and I imagine there isn’t exactly a 24 hour chapel in the underworld. How do they wind up getting married? When? Is it when Hermes shows up and she accepts his seeds (and if so does Hermes realize what he's witnessing)? Is it some point off screen between her abduction and her reappearance? A quickie on Olympus with Zeus half heartedly trying to come up with wedding vows?

Marriage in Order to Produce Heir: Claudian’s Du Raptu Proserpinae explicitly gives Hades/Pluto the motivation to marry as wanting to become a father. I’d love to see how Persephone in this version approaches that (especially with the underworlds residents literally singing about how they hope she gets knocked up when she’s first taken to her marriage bed!), but I’d also love to see what might happen in versions of their story where for whatever reason, they cannot have children. How do they deal with that, if their whole reason for marriage was to produce an heir? Does not having children lead to some thorny situations in the underworld?

Marriage to a god leads to combined powers: I would love to find out how Hades might deal with suddenly having some power over life or Persephone deals with suddenly having power over death. Does either struggle more than the other?

Married Couple with Het Mpreg: Hades is not the one in this relationship anyone ever expected to get pregnant, but since mpreg is to a certain extent canon in this universe (Zeus putting baby Dionysus in his thigh), and Hades arguably has a less physically stressful position than his wife (since he isn’t going back and forth), I can see them deciding Hades will deal with the whole carrying a baby thing. How do either of them deal with that situation? Does being pregnant make Hades experience things he did not expect? Does Persephone find this exciting or weird? What does everyone else think?

Married Someone Pregnant and the Baby Isn't Theirs: I would love to see Zeus knock up Persephone and throw her to Hades to try to get both Hera and Demeter off his back. Does Hades know that Persephone is pregnant with another man’s baby? Does he care? Was what happened between Persephone and Zeus mutual? If so, does she harbor a flame for a man who is done with her (or worse yet, isn’t, but just tossed her down to help throw people off the trail)? If it was nonconsensual, how does Persephone deal with being a victim of rape, now carrying a rapist’s baby? How does Hades deal with the new child (does he resent it? Want it?) and his new wife? Do Hades and Persephone fall in love or is this just a politics-only marriage?

Parent(s) of loved one not approving of marriage: I would love to see this with any parent,
especially someone who isn’t Demeter (who is the only parent whose views on this marriage are known – but I love her, so a Demeter take is also always interesting to me too!). Does Cronos mock his son about marrying one of Zeus’s whelps? Does Rhea come down to Hades to yell at him about how grabbing his little wife has fucked over the world? Does Zeus have misgivings about giving his brother his daughter?

Prophetic Dreams or Visions of Marrying Their Soulmate: Hades and/or Persephone has dreams about a strange person they haven’t met that they’re planning on marrying. How do they feel about those dreams? Are they afraid of them? Desperate to find them? How do they realize who they are, and what’s their reaction when they do?

Switching places with Alternate Universe Married Counterparts: there are a LOT of media portrayals of Hades and Persephone and I’d love to see the OG myth duo swap spaces with another version of themselves. I'm familiar with probably 90% of the Greek mythology adaptations that have come out in the past 30 years so please go with whatever form you wish.

Hadestown

Hades and Persephone dancin’ in the underworld.

Hades & Persephone are my favorites in this musical and I'm in love with their relationship. I love how complicated their relationship is: They clearly love one another, but Hades resents her for leaving for six months out of every 12 and she resents just how controlling he can become. They're so prickly but they're also so in love, and they're still trying to make it work, even if they're not always on the same page. I'd love to see something of how their story started; how did these two decide to get married? How do they deal with the challenge of her having to leave him every six months? Obviously, from the musical, we know — not well, but what did they think of in those early days, when no walls were quite built between them?

Bard Immortalizes Wedding in Ballad To Couple's Delight or Embarrassment: Obviously, Orpheus immortalizes their romance in rather vivid lalalalas during the show itself. But then he loses the girl. When Orpheus goes back up top, does he choose to immortalize Hades and Persephone in his song for the masses? If so, does he do so in a way that reminds the world of their love? Or does he write a ribald song as revenge, knowing it will make Hades embarrassed? (I can’t see Persephone giving a shit.) Do Hades and Persephone ever show up for his performances? What does Orpheus do?

Blurting Out Proposal Unplanned: Hades’ proposal in the NYTW version of Hadestown seems to have been asking Persephone if they could bang in the dirt. Did he just wind up blurting it out? How well did they know one another? If you’re going off off the national (which seems to take Ovid’s version) or Broadway (seeing the world hand-in-hand) — how did this proposal happen? Why did Hades propose then? How did Persephone take the proposal?

Class conflict in marriage: Hades clearly has an eye for the fine things in life. Persephone’s background isn’t given, but given how much she tends to be very down on Hades’ desires for gilt and gold, it makes sense to me that these two probably come from very different backgrounds. What kind of class conflicts do they have as queen and king? Is Persephone alright with her role as queen of Hadestown/the Underworld? Does Hades think she acts appropriately? Do the workers ever feel closer to her or him because of class?

Courtship: Hades and Persephone’s courtship has changed in every version of the show and I’m so interested in any of them. I would love to see how these two met, how they fell in love — whether a Greek myth version or a version used in the show, or your own ideas. How did Persephone agree to marry the King of the Underworld? How did the king of the Underworld even meet such a goddess as the patroness of all this?

Disastrous Wedding Ceremony Everyone Will Gossip About For Years: Look, the original version of this show literally had Hades and Persephone’s wedding be Hades boning her down in her mom’s garden. Like. Even in different versions of the show, there’s absolutely no way these two weren’t utter disasters (I say with fondness) about their wedding. I would LOVE the details of how these two got married. Why did they get married? Was it for spite? Was Persephone pregnant? Was Hades literally just like YOU, ME, BONE ZONE NOW?! In the worst possible circumstances?

First Anniversary: Hades and Persephone seem like they married abruptly and their relationship has a lot of ups and downs. How did their first anniversary go? Was Hadestown already being built there or was it a different kind of town? What sort of anniversary do gods have?

Friends/Family/Fans/Foes React To Unexpected Or Contentious Marriage: I would love to see ANYONE react to Hades and Persephone’s constant squabbling. Do the workers become experts in dodging Hades' bad moods when he and his wife are squabbling? Do workers ever try to comfort Persephone on her marriage to the boss? Does Hermes wind up being a willing/unwilling ear? What about Eurydice during her time underground (and woo boy is that gonna be contentious)? Does Orpheus ever hear them arguing up top? What about Persephone’s mom or the fates? If you want to do an OC or a crossover character from Greek mythology (or any mythology honestly), I'd love that too!

Honeymoon Sexual Exploration For Couple Who Had Little/No Opportunity For Sex Before Marriage: I cant imagine either of these two had a lot of sex before marriage, particularly in the NYTW where having sex does seem to constitute marriage in and of itself. AND YET. They clearly waste no time in having sex, so: Is either a virgin going into it? Is either nervous? Was it good? does having sex with a God/Goddess have unexpected acts/events/etc and how do they roll with that? What’s that first time like? I love fail sex as much as good sex so both would be amazing to me.

Improvised Unofficial Wedding Ceremonies: Because these two def seem to have gotten married very fast. Were they married on their first date? How fid they decide to get married so quickly and what made them decide to do it? Did either have a moment of OH GODS I HAVE JUST MARRIED SOMEONE WHO WILL BE IN MY LIFE FOREVER?! Was either one more into getting married than the other? What sort of ceremony did they devise? After all they're gods. Who do they decide to dedicate a marriage ceremony to, and what might it look like?

Insatiable Newlyweds: look these two are constantly touching one another and have canonically boned down in her moms garden so uh…I think at least at the start, they were That Couple that is constantly in one another’s mouth. So…were they? And how did people react to this? What made it stop, if it stopped?
Later in life marriage: Hades seems to have been quite a bit older than Persephone when they married, judging by the actors ages (he is and she is !). That’s a LONG TIME to develop as an adult by yourself. What made him realize he wanted to get married, and to get married to Persephone at that? Is it surprisingly easy for him to slide into married life or is it a struggle to deal with this woman being up in his space all the time, even if it is a woman he loves? He seems to long for her to be there when she isn’t…is that something that happened over time or is it something that was almost instinctual?

Marriage Early in Relationship: Hades and Persephone don’t seem to have had a terribly long courtship in any version. Id love to see the moment when they realize that what they’re getting into is a life time commitment- and for Persephone, a lifetime commitment to the god of the underworld. How do they handle that realization? How does Hades handle realizing he’ll never have his wife full time, ever? What’s their relationship like those first early years?

Marriage for Propaganda Purposes: I would love to see how Hades uses his marriage in the context of Hadestown. He keeps Persephone up front and center in Why Do We Build the Wall so its clear that he’s using her in his propaganda. Was his marriage part of his desire to wrest control of Hadestown all along? Or did it come after they married, and he’s utilizing their marriage for the sake of his empire? How does Persephone feel about that? How does he feel about the fact that she is the only one who won’t do the hand sign everyone else does?

Marriage To Cause Apocalypse: I would love dark fic where hades tries to but never quite succeeds at not coming early. He loves his wife too much and damn it all hes willing to kill the world if it means he has her or she decides for her marriage to work, the earth must die and in the end, she loves him more. How do they live with it? Do they wind up having a riot of workers angry that they're killing the world for their own love? Do humans rise up against them? Can these humans succeed in rising up against the gods, or are the gods triumphant? If they are killed or otherwise detained, what happens to the world?
Parent(s) of loved one not approving of marriage: Hades gets a crack out about Persephone’s mama that makes me think she’s obviously a sore point in their marriage. And why would she be a sore point? Because she obviously doesn’t approve, at least as far as Hades feels – you can tell he’s jealous of his wife’s mother when he gripes that Persephone comes whenever she calls. And yet, this is also an off-screen character who tells her daughter to try to enjoy the time she has up top but definitely knows her daughter will inevitably go back down. Did her mother see these cracks that would bring their relationship to where it is in Hadestown? How did she fact to their marriage? Do she and Hades get along at all? Does Hades every try to come for a family dinner with her and his wife? How’s it go?

Secret Marriage: Hades and Persephone started really abruptly and given the difference in their ages and their jobs I can see them keeping their marriage on the down low for a while. Does Hades or Persephone get jealous that people hit on their so when they're gone? Do they keep it quiet or does one of them snap and start shouting it from the rooftops? When do they decide to admit it and what is the fallout?

Switching places with Alternate Universe Married Counterparts: I would love to see Hades or Persephone or both being swapped with their alternate universe counterparts. Go for whatever canon you want – odds are I’m familiar. Does Persephone wind up with Hades from classical mythology and wind up feeling hopeless ennui? Does Hadestown Hades wind up with Persephone from the Steven King novel and wind up pitying her? Do they both wind up in the Hercules underworld feeling very, very confused?

Vow Renewal Ceremony: They’re apart so often and I wonder if, in their better years, they had some way of marking their vows. What’s it like to basically have to get remarried over and over again? When things start to go bad, do they stop doing the vow ceremony, or do they do it half-heartedly? Is there a point where one of them really huts the other by neglecting it at some point? Or does one or the other GO BIG and make a mad attempt through their vow renewal to try to, well, renew the other’s love?

Worldbuilding through Marriage Ceremony: I’m absolutely fascinated by the combination of Americana and Greek mythology that is the Hadestown mythos. I would love anything and everything worldbuilding about this wedding: How did they meet? How did they get married? What does it feel like to be a god? What is it like to watch history turn? Give me all that sweet, sweet story creation and feel free to make it as divergent from canon (or loyal to canon!) as you like. Any version of the show is fine; I know them all.

Star Wars Legends:The Old Republic

Darth Zash strikes a pose.

Listen, sometimes a Sith Lord has desires, and sometimes those desires are to see a girl paint the living
room red with her new wife's blood. I just need these two to be the bitter, backstabbing yet totally devoted duo they always are. <3 I mostly want these two to be the rivals who fuck, sometimes; who love, maybe; who hate, definitely. I’m not picky on inquisitors – go with what moves you. Any race, creed, or color is fine!

I know I have less prompts for this than I have for my either two request but please don’t think that I want it any less. I am a greedy bitch and I absolutely crave my Sith ladies. I am only more limited because I don’t really want fluff for this; I want evil and dastardly sithness, in its most glorious way. Zash being in Zash’s body is preferred, but I don’t mind her dashade body or an different body if it suits the story.

Odds are if you matched on this you are Kimaracretak. If you are Kimaracretak, babe, you turned me into this and you pretty much are the maker for it so get down with your cosmic horror and I’ll be here for you. If you’re not Kimaracretak, please tell us so we can introduce you to our Zash/Sith Inquisitor blood cabal that meets every Thursday at nine. We’ll get you your first pair of robes. :P But in all seriousness, please feel free to go as mean as you want to, or as evil, or even as light if you want to. Just let the women be siths.

Blood Ritual Accidentally Results in Marriage: Is there anything that screams Sith more than blood ritual? I don’t think so. I would love to see what might happen with Zash and the Sith Inquisitor; are they working together? Are they racing against one another, trying to one-up one another? Whose blood is getting ritualized? How do they realize they’re in a marriage – and what do they do once they realize it?

Marriage Is Sealed with Blood Drinking: there’s just something about the Sith that just really makes sense with blood and I’d love to see how this happens. Is this a consensual marriage where the two ladies are manipulating one another in glorious Sithly dynasty? Is one of them really into this (or both, who says the Sith cannot love?)? Is it non-consensual where one is tied up and forcing the other to drink? What is a Sith marriage like, does it give them any powers they’re looking for?

Political Marriage Where One Partner Plans to Kill their Spouse: It’s the same old story, you know: Sith plucks long-shot apprentice out from the dirt, Sith makes said apprentice think they’re special, Sith marries said apprentice as said apprentice gains power, and then a Sith – but which, I do not know and would love to be surprised -- plans to take over that power in the most SIthly, heartbreaking way possible. Who decides to betray the other? Is there any guilt? How do they plan to do it? Is it a kill where they plan it to be very personal, or something that they hire someone else to do their dirty work? Do they enact this plan? If so, do they succeed?

Someone's Trying to Kill Me and I Think it's My Spouse: The flip side of the above, where the plot is the same but the viewpoint is the victim. How do they catch on to this plan? Are they heartbroken, or have they been expecting this? Do they try to kill the person trying to kill them? Who wins this game of cat and mouse? I’d love to see even a snippet of this universe. As to whether it’s Zash or the Inquisitor who is the one planning on killing their spouse – surprise me. I will like it either way. 

Ghost Spouse Tries to Murder Living Spouse because They're Lonely: If you went with the killing Zash option (or just write her off at some point prior to the story), well, death is nothing compared to the force. It’s well documented in Star Wars you cannot keep a dead Sith down, so I would love to see the Ghost Zash deciding well, if she’s dead, her apprentice has to be to. Does the Inquisitor catch on? What can a ghost do to affect the world? How does Zash get their revenge? (If you’d like to do an alternate version, where Zash cuts down her Sith Apprentice for her body and then the disembodied spirit of the Inquisitor comes back for revenge? Wow that’s a damn good story too.)

Wedding Altar Sex: Sometimes a woman has simple needs. Sometimes this need is two hot sith ladies having sex on an altar for …reasons??? I’m sure you can think of a better one than I can. But I’d definitively look forward to seeing what you come up with.
