    Ancient Greek Religion & Lore

    Single Characters: Aphrodite, Demeter, Persephone
Groups: Group: Andromache and Helen of Troy, Group: Helen of Troy and Aphrodite, Group: Persephone and Aphrodite

Greek Mythology is one of my eternal fandoms, and I love the female characters of these ancient epics most of all. It's particularly inspiring to me how the women in these times, despite living in a time when women were treated so poorly, often find ways to keep their heads above water or even thrive. The politics between the (often feuding) goddesses, and the relationship between mortals and gods, is absolutely one of my topics to examine.

For Aphrodite, I'm fascinated by how she has this role that somewhat influences how people perceive her - does that get old? Speaking of old, as one of the oldest goddesses' in the Olympian crowd (being the daughter of Zeus' grandfather) -- does that bother her? Is she weary in her age? For Aphrodite with Helen, I'm fascinated by Helen being "blessed" by Aphrodite: was this truly a blessing, or was it more of a curse? Did Aphrodite intend it to be either? With Persephone, there are versions of the story where Aphrodite makes Hades fall in love with Persephone -- does Persephone blame Aphrodite for her marriage? Was there a reason she did that? And why did she send Psyche to Persephone, anyway?

For Demeter, I'd love to see something about what she does when she isn't with her daughter: I feel like we get a lot of Demeter stories dealing with Persephone, but rarely without her. What does she do the other six months of the year? Does that change through time?

For Persephone, I would love to see something that focuses on her dual nature: as both a queen of death and a life-giving goddess, does she operate on a more "big-picture" level than other gods/goddesses? Does she get frustrated that she basically can't ever really control "her" time? That she's in an eternal custody battle?

For Helen and Andromache, I really would love to know what life is like in the Trojan camp -- or what it's like for them after the Trojan empire has collapsed. Do they get along? Are they friends? Rivals? Lovers? Any sort of fleshing out of what their relationship is like is more than welcome.

For all the group pairings, I enjoy both the ship and gen versions of these relationships, so, please go with what you prefer!

    Preferred ships:

Aphrodite: ANYONE in the entire canon
Demeter: Aphrodite, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, Chronus, Triplomachus, Iason
Persephone: Aphrodite, Hera, Hades, Helen of Troy, Andromache
Helen of Troy: Anyone in the entire canon
    Andromache: Hector, Andromache

    Aphrodite

I ADORE Aphrodite. Aphrodite is such a unique character in Greek mythology because she's the only one from the Titan generation who she not only survives to Olympus, but thrives: despite being older than all the other gods in command, Aphrodite retains her seat on the Olympian's table, and isn't the one who steps down for Dionysus when he ascends to the table. Aphrodite's lived through a lot, and being immortal, can only live through more. Given that her job is so heavily connected with the mortals, I would love to see her thoughts on how humanity changes over time.

    Fic Prompts:

Does seeing how history rhymes so often make her weary, or does Aphrodite still believe in hope? She is often invoked in the main ways that women in the Greek epics were able to gain and wield power: through the seduction of men. Most of the gods all seem to adore Aphrodite, and only once in all of mythology is she punished for her "transgressions", and even then she (mostly) gets away with it. How does Aphrodite keep her power? Do people underestimate her? Does being the fountain of all pleasures bring unwelcome attention - or does she use this for her own ends? Past the classical era, what, if anything, was Aphrodite doing? (Or who, if you want to go that route.)

    Art Prompts:
    * Aphrodite experimenting in gender-fuckering. I'd love to see drag king! Aphrodite or trans! Aphrodite or honestly just a gender non-conforming Aphrodite.
    * Aphrodite having a thousand masks of attractiveness, but what lies beneath?
    * Aphrodite, modern! style - what would she look like today?

    Demeter

I adore Demeter, who is such a strong mother figure in a pantheon that is often quite cruel to women. She comes from a horrible background — abused by her dad, literally imprisoned with her two sisters and two brothers — and isn’t freed until it’s time for a terrible war that she has to fight in. By the time that’s done, she marries/has sex with Zeus (depending on what version you read), who wins the most powerful position in all of the pantheon, and you’d think things were looking up — but then he marries her sister, Hera, instead. So does Demeter rue and lament? Nope, she pours all her energy into raising a damn awesome daughter, and it’s not until something happens to that daughter that she comes undone. In short: Demeter has balls of steel, and I love her.

    Fic Prompts:

I would love to see anything on Demeter in her earlier days; how did she come to fight in the war? How did she feel about her sisters and brothers who were trapped with her —and how did she handle the emotional whiplash from being locked away by Chronus to being free to go as far as she wishes? Why does Demeter not want to live on Olympus? What does she do after Persephone is out of the house -- for half the year, at least? Does she come to kinda wish Persephone would move out fully, or is she happy to eternally share custody of her daughter with her brother/son-in-law?

I would also love to see something about Demeter set in modern times. It feels like of all goddess she's one of the ones who might have the most possibility for transformation, as farming today is so very different from what it was in ancient times. How does Demeter feel about the food production switching from the family farm growing for their own food, versus the corporate farm that grows mountains of food? Does Demeter help farmworkers strike -- or is she a major corporate actor, enjoying rising to the tops of farm conglomerates? How does she feel about John Deer and all that sort of farm decor? How does she feel about how her position has changed over the years?

    Art Prompts:

    * Demeter farming through the ages! I'd love to see her in different Eras.
    * Demeter experiencing the sky for the first time.
    * Demeter, in winter.

    Persephone

Persephone is pretty much amazing 100% of the time for me and I’d love to see something about her coming into her unique situation, or how she's coping with it years later. She's either screwed or more fortunate than most, depending on how you take the Hades and Persephone relationship (and I enjoy it both ways). You also never see much of her with anyone else, and I'd love to see her with characters who she doesn't really get to meet (or at least, spent much time with) in canon.

    Fic prompts:

How do the gods who aren't Demeter or Hades think of her? How does she think of them? Persephone is the only goddess who belongs to two kingdoms: half her mothers, and half her husband's. Do people view her with suspicion for that? Does she have a home she prefers, or does she like them both in their ways? What are the drawbacks of being not really of any one particular world? Does she know things that would make the other gods uncomfortable, from being on both sides of the veil?

And with Demeter and Hades, how does she feel about constantly having to go back and forth between the upper world and the lower one? Does this give her a unique perspective among the gods, or is it just tedious? How does she change over time? How do things change with her mother as time goes by? With her husband? Do they get closer, or is distance inevitable when you age up a bit? Is Persephone bitter about the custody arrangement, centuries down the line? Or is she thankful to be able to have both of them by her side?

    Art prompts:

    * Anything showing off Persephone's dual nature possibilities: male/female, up/down, winter/summer?
    * Persephone, descending. Persephone, ascending.
    * What is winter like for someone who never sees it?

Group: Helen of Troy and Aphrodite

    Gen Relationship:

Helen is clearly "blessed" by Aphrodite in her beauty, but she's also used by Aphrodite as a bit of meat to give out as a prize to Paris, and this is somehow already the second abduction that the girl has weathered due to strange men falling in love with her. Helen shows a lot of hatred of herself when she's given time to do so in the Iliad: that isn't often, for Aphrodite is quick to use her powers on Helen, making her fall back in love with Paris. How do these two feel about one another? Does Helen feel she needs Aphrodite to survive, or does she pray the woman will lose interest in her soon? Does Aphrodite enjoy seeing her most beautiful girl, or is she jealous of Helen's beauty, and quick to "keep her humble" when she can? Is there ever a moment that changes their emotions toward one another, and if so, what emotion is it?

    Art Prompts:
    * Helen and Aphrodite being two sides of the same coin.
    * Aphrodite using her powers on Helen to fall in love with Paris.
    * Aphrodite blessing Helen.

    Romantic Relationship:

These are the two most beautiful women on Earth: Helen the (mostly) mortal, and Aphrodite the divine. It seems almost natural that no one could understand them better than one another, that no one understands that to be beautiful is both gift and curse. Is the relationship something pure, a meeting of two minds? Or is this more simply a manipulation on one of their parts, trying to curry favor with the other -- through any possible means? What sort of relationship would they have? And would their looks ever be a competition or purely eye candy for one another? Is there a difference between them due to the difference between mortal and immortal, or is it a thinner line between the two?

    Art Prompts:
    * Helen and Aphrodite sharing a bed.
    * Kissing/finding comfort in one another.
    * Aphrodite in all her awesome power, and Helen giving her worship.

    Group: Persephone and Aphrodite

    Gen Relationship:

Persephone and Aphrodite don't really get to meet much in Greek mythology, but the Romans saw a place for them together: in such stories, they seem to either be rivals or get along fairly well: Aphrodite sends Psyche to Persephone to test her, and Aphrodite is blamed by Ovid for Hades falling in love with Persephone in the first place. And then if you go by late Greek/Roman sources, well, you have the whole Adonis thing... I've always wondered what the relationship between them would be: is Persephone resentful of Aphrodite, who seems to have either played no-part in her marriage, or far-too-active a part, depending on your viewpoint? (And I like both!) Is Aphrodite annoyed by Persephone, who gets married without her being involved in the process or seems to make the process work for her? Or are they secretly friends, with Persephone working with Aphrodite? How do they handle the whole Adonis situation? And given that they have hundreds of thousands of years to move on (or not), how does their relationship change through time?

    Art prompts:

    * Aphrodite deciding to take an interest in Persephone's life.
    * Aphrodite and Persephone in the red krater style.
    * Aphrodite and Persephone encountering one another in a modern setting.

    Romantic:

Persephone and Aphrodite are both goddesses who have been married off to people they were not, entirely, in love with. (And if you want to write them being in love with their husbands with also getting some side dish, that's fine with me; if you'd rather write it as them not yet married or being married unwillingly I'm fine with that too!) I can see them being attracted to one another: Persephone may not have ever known love in her marriage, and Aphrodite certainly doesn't have any qualms about having affairs. How does the relationship between them start? Do they keep it a secret, or do they broadcast it across town?

    Art Prompts:
    * Aphrodite and Persephone having a sneaky kiss behind a column/wall.
    * In a springtime garden, Aphrodite helps inspire Persephone to make the flowers grow.
    * Eye-candy.

Group: Andromache and Helen of Troy

    Gen:

I find the relationship between Andromache and Helen so interesting. Helen is very much an interloper, brought to this lands either against her will or with a goddess manipulating her will, and seems constantly aware in the Illiad that she is an outsider to the Trojans. Andromache, on the other hand, knows that the tide is turning against her people, that a great calamity that will ultimately claim her husband and son is ultimately something laid at the feet of this woman and Paris. How on earth do these two interact? Does Andromache hate her, or view Helen with some kindness, herself having once been the new person in the court? Does Andromache act out against her? Seek to aid her? What happens when troy falls do these two women ever meet again?

    Art Prompts:

    * The Trojan women looking out onto the battlefield together.
    * Escaping Troy.
    * Reunion - if there was one, what might it have looked like?

    Romantic:

Andromache has so much tragedy in her life, and Helen, too, has been treated unkindly by fate. Both seem to have been women born into positions of privilege who were deprived of it through no fall of their own but that of the men in their lives. I would love to see Helen and Andromache able to find a kindness in one another, whether during the war or after; how might their love affair begin? How do they hide it, if they do? Is there any way either can move on, with the reminder of the war so constant as the other's presence in their life? Might it not be, inherently, a good thing, to be together again? Also: I have a major weakness for hate-fucking, so if you want these two to be attracted to one another yet resentful as hell, that also works for me just as well as the soft and sweet version.

    Art Prompts:

    * Andromache and Helen share a kiss.
    * Andromache and Helen enjoy a quick moment together before the inevitable end.
    * Helen comforts Andromache after a nightmare in bed.

    Hadestown

    Single Character: Eurydice, Persephone
Group: Group: Persephone and Eurydice (Hadestown)

I'm outright fascinated by the women of Hadestown! I really enjoy how both Persephone and Eurydice are both well-rounded characters, with weaknesses I'd love to see explored and strengths I'd love to see more time spent on. I would really love to see how some of Eurydice's adventures pre- or post-canon (in whatever interpretation of post-canon) might shape her. I would love to see some in-depth exploration of how Persephone's alcoholism affects her relationships or how her dual nature works, exactly in Hadestown, or her role in the town itself.
For the group focus, I welcome both ship and gen friendly interpretations!

    Preferred ships:
Eurydice: Persephone, Hades, Orpheus, the Fates
Persephone: Eurydice, Hades, Eurydice & Hades, the Fates

For gen, I like all of the characters so please go nuts in whoever you want to include!

    Eurydice
I’m absolutely fascinated by Eurydice’s journey in Hadestown and how it takes what had been a very flat character who literally never got a single line of dialogue in the original version of the myth and instead makes her a dynamic and fully fleshed out character. Her story -- woman gets sweet-talked into signing her life away by a man, woman loses faith in her husband for faith in her own hard work, woman who loves and believes in the best of circumstances in the worst of times only to be betrayed twice over -- is both brutal and lamentable.

    Fic Prompts:

We don't get a lot of background on Eurydice, and I'd love to see some of her solo adventures before she met up with Orpheus and the others. She's a runaway, so who or what is she running away from? What sort of things has she done? She seems like she's been burned by love before Orpheus -- what happened? Why did she leave her home in the first place?

I’d also honestly love to see anything about her life in Hadestown! What happens to her post-canon? Does she continue to work in Hadestown (at least until the next “loop” starts)? Does she start a rebellion while stuck under Hades' thumb? Does she fade away? If you go by the sing it again part at the end being a straight reset of the timeline, then does the fact she has the flower from Orpheus change anything in the next loop?

    Art Prompts:
    * Eury done in one of those Soviet-style posters as a recruitment ad for Hadestown or other propaganda-like posters.
    * Eury in a field of flowers. With a partner, or alone.
    * Eurydice's attempts to weather the cold in the world above.

    Persephone

I love how complicated Persephone is. Her problems are so clearly on display as much as Hades' are, and the foibles in her marriage are so-very-relatable, that she is neither without fault nor without strength in her disputes with Hades. While in the original myth, Persephone was a girl whose marriage was basically forced on her by older men, Hadestown's Persephone chose this path, and I am curious about how this changes her character.

    Fic Prompts:

At what point did she start needing to drink to make it through the wintertime? Has this affected her relationships with Hades, her mother, Hermes, etc? I'm really fascinated by how Persephone is an alcoholic character, and I'd love to see some focus on how her relationship with other characters changes because of this. Do some characters take advantage of her being blitzed out? Or are they horrified/annoyed/etc by Persephone's drinking habits? Post-Hadestown, does she continue to drink, and does her alcoholism continue to cause problems for her? Or does she try to kick the habit - and if so, what happens?

I’d also love to see Persephone with the workers/with Hadestown itself. It’s clear she feels for the workers from how she looks at them during Chant. If you want to write something more upbeat, I’d love to see how she tries to make Hadestown more bearable for them post-canon. What does the lady of ways/the lady of means do for the workers? What sort of power is in her fingertips? Has she ever gotten Hades to do what she wanted in hopes of making things better for others? On the other hand, Persephone's duality makes it easy to see ways in which she is not so generous: does she also exploit the workers? Is there a limit to how much she likes them? At what point does she go "You're on your own"? Is she exploiting the workers by "selling" them moonlight and glimpses of the world upstairs? If so, what does she do with the money?

    Art Prompts:
    * Persephone and her flask, either in shadow or in light.
    * Persephone's coming home, post-Hadestown, and how others react to it.
    * Persephone's duality, something playing with her being both up top and down below.

    Group: Persephone and Eurydice

    Gen Relationship:

    Fic Prompts:

It’s really clear that Persephone is fond of Eurydice during most of Act 1, pushing her to interact with Orpheus and to go dancing with the entourage — but then Chant happens, and Hades leaves, and next time Eurydice and Persephone meet, its is on far different terms. Persephone spends most of act 2 watching Eurydice and trying to help her despite Eurydice being used as a pawn in her husband's schemes to hurt her. How does Persephone come to forgive Eurydice or, if not forgive, find it in her heart to advocate for the girl anyway? Why does Persephone find it within herself to try to help Eurydice? Does she see herself in the girl, or is it more Hades that she sees there, or does she have another reason altogether? Does Persephone believe Eurydice and Orpheus can avoid the doubt that has kept her and her husband down, and if so, what is her reaction to Eurydice being re-doomed to the underworld? Does it affect their relationship? Or Persephone's relationship with Orpheus/Hades/Hermes/the Fates/etc?

    Art prompts:
    * Honestly, I'd love to see more with Persephone filling Eurydice's cup, encouraging her to party, etc. up top.
    * Persephone and Eurydice as two sides of the same coin in Hadestown.
    * Hope in unexpected places, or Eurydice and Persephone at Persephone's bar.

Romantic/Sexual Relationship: I can see Persephone being as attracted to Eurydice as Hades is, and I would love to see a version of them getting together post canon; I like the idea of this happening either with Hades' knowledge/permission (even if he, perhaps, isn’t happy with his wife’s attention on the songbird) and am fine with outright infidelity. Does Persephone’s special “attention” make things easier for Eurydice (a literal blast of springtime air from up above), or does it make her life way down under the ground harder (Hades, perhaps, taking out his displeasure at this new “pastime” of his wife’s out on her lover; or the other workers being uncomfortable about the relationship between Eurydice and Persephone and/or the boss)?

    Art prompts:
    * What the boss doesn't know, the boss won't mind.
    * Making out/heavy petting in the bar.
    * Persephone with Eurydice in her bed.

Once on this Island - Flaherty/Ahrens (2017 Revival)

    Single Character: Papa Ge
Group: Ti Moune and Papa Ge

I love OOTI so much, especially for the female characters in it. Ti Moune's belief that she is meant to be a special girl, only to end up being a plaything for the Gods -- urgh. I would love to see a re-do of her canon ending or a continuation on it, but I would also love some exploration about Ti Moune's relationship with the Gods, especially Papa Ge who does wind up being, in an odd way, the God most in her life. What does Papa Ge see in Ti Moune? Is she just a fun plaything, or is she something more? Papa Ge seems rather feared on the Island, for good reason -- how do encounters with Papa Ge and the mortals generally go? Does Papa Ge resent that they seem to be treated somewhat lowly in the council of the gods?

For the group here, I love femslash, but I love gen too. Both is good!

Unfortunately, I forgot to mark that I was welcoming fanart to this, so I won't do prompts, but I do love the idea of fanart just as much as fanfiction, so I would love it as a treat!

    Preferred Ships:
    Ti Moune: Papa Ge, Andrea
    Papa Ge: Ti Moune, Erzulie

    Papa Ge

I adore Papa Ge's characterization and am fascinated with how she is so powerful yet is held in such contempt by so many of the citizens. The people of hte island don't seem to treat her with much respect, and the gods and goddesses also seem to disdain her. Papa Ge seems to be very much a loner, who doesn't intercede often in the affairs of mortals, yet also claims to be their dying prayer. She's a very complex character and I love that despite being the protagonist's antagonist, she's not quite simple enough to reduce to villainy.

So what is up with Papa Ge's place in society? Is her low place because of the function she has, and if so, was she born to that, or did she choose it? Or is it due to her personality, and if so, how might she have lost the support of the gods and mortals alike? Does this make Papa Ge more resentful of people/the gods, or does Papa Ge understand why they keep her at arms' length?

And given how stern Papa Ge often is, why did they take such an interest in Ti Moune? What I find fascinating is not only does Papa Ge banter Ti Moune about as a plaything, but they also show pity on Ti Moune in her death, forming part of the group that transforms her into a tree. Why would Papa Ge show such kindness? Is this a common part of her character, despite her reputation? Is Papa Ge more merciful than might seem, or is this a one-off display of pity?

Group: Papa Ge and Ti Moune

I really find the relationship between Ti Moune and Papa Ge fascinating. Ti Moune is so certain that she has been marked special by the gods, that when Daniel's "dying prayer" of a goddess comes, she doesn't hesitate to throw her own life on the bargaining table. And yet the rest of the show shows what a bad idea this is. There's a fascination I think in both parts of this group for the other: Papa Ge being amused at Ti Moune's bravery/foolhardiness, and Ti Moune's utter lack of fear about death -- but at the same time, almost willing to accept death's help.

    Gen Fic Prompts:

I would just love to see something more about Ti Moune after she takes Papa Ge's knife but isn't able to take it to the final conclusion that would prove Papa Ge right by proving death was stronger than love. Yet, the next time we see them together, Papa Ge helps Ezoulie and the other gods make Ti Moune into a tree as an at of mercy. Was this some sort of long game, where Papa Ge will enjoy seeing that tree and knowing that Ti Moune will never have her daniel, but have to serve his descendants? Or is it a sort of mercy for her? What might have happened when they met again for the (final? penultimate?) time? Does Papa Ge ever help her transform back into a girl? Does Papa Ge ever stroll under her tree? How do both of them change through time?

    Romance Fic prompts:

These two know a little something about being rejected, and honestly part of me really wants to see an AU ending where Papa Ge saves Ti Moune from death...by making her serve death. Whether it's a one day pleasure fest because Papa Ge wants to see if Ti Moune can love her like she loved Daniel, or if it becomes them becoming murder girlfriends who stalk through the island, terror flowing in their wake? How do the other gods see this pairing? Do they ever come to collect Daniel, and if so, how does that go down?

Natasha Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 - Malloy

Group: Elena "Hélène" Vasilyevna Kuragina and Natalya "Natasha" Ilyinichna Rostova (1812)

Honestly, I love these two based on the video for Charming and I just want to see more of their relationship, especially after things end the way they do between Hélène's brother and Natasha. Hélène is a character who I always find fascinating, a woman of limited means of power in her time but none-the-less capable of rendering events as large as breaking up a relationship between an heir-apparant and his bride. She plays such a large role in Natasha's downfall, but she isn't an unsympathetic character in and of herself: especially given her marriage and the strange relationship with her brother Anatole.

Note: I'm aware that this is an adaptation of part of War of Peace, but I opted to go for this fandom instead of the book proper because a) Amber Gray and Denee Benton are gorgeous and ridiculously talented and I would love to see some works based on their characterization of these characters, and b) because it ends at a different, more sensitive point. I'm aware in the novel Hélène separates from Pierre, becomes a catholic, then dies presumably due to an abortion, and Natasha spends a lot of time nursing Andrei but if you want to change their fates, I am all for it. If you'd like to keep the War & Peace canon, that's also fine with me, but I'd appreciate more focus on the ladies' stories over Andrei/Pierre.

Also I forgot to mark I would like fanart to this, so I won't do prompts, but I do love fanart just as much as fanfiction if you want to draw a treat!

    Preferred ships:
    Hélène: Natasha, Pierre
    Natasha: Sonya, Hélène, Pierre

    Gen Prompts:
How does Hélène view Natasha - as competition? As a friend? As a pity? What sort of occasion would they meet at? If keeping with the War and Peace canon -- how might their relationship change after Hélène's divorce from Pierre? Does having married the same man put their relationship at odds, even if Hélène had little/no love for her husband? If you break away from the War and Peace canon -- what happens to them after the show, with Natasha disgraced on part of Hélène's brother? Does Hélène cotton on to the love her husband has for Natasha, and how does she react? Can these two women ever be friends, or do they give one another a wide berth?

    Romantic Prompts:
I feel like "Charming" details Anatole's interest in Natasha, and also Hélène's interest in Natasha. Hélène certainly seems to be unhappy in her marriage, and I can see her wanting to hurt Pierre by seducing a woman that he clearly has soft feelings for, a very large transgression given the time and place that Hélène lives in. I also think you can see Hélène clearly digs Natasha physically, and all that talk about "burying pearls in the country" c'mon I mean the lesbian sub-text writes itself. I would really love to see a scene from an AU where Hélène seduces Natasha, rather than/in addition to Natasha's seduction by Anatole. Just how would Hélène seduce her? Would she truly care for the girl, or would it be a way to jab Pierre right where it would really hurt him? Would drink be involved? Would Natasha be warier on being seduced by Hélène, or less so? How would other characters react?
