Hades

Short entry, but I played a little bit of Hades today and I have to say how much I love this game. It is a dangerous game to me because its very easy for me to lose track of time, to say one more run and then to not mean it, to ignore other things because I'm so enraptured with Zagreus and his family.

But man, I missed this game, and coming back into it, I'm reminded of why. I'm in the post-credits part of the game, where Zag's relationships are well-established, and playing it just feels like a nice, warm hug.

Also, as a happy note, somehow -- after probably twenty runs worth of being totally stuck -- I finally got Achilles to advance in the Achilles/Patroclus quest. I wish I knew what made it finally move toward; it had to be a bit of dialogue from someone else, but no one seems to mention Achilles and Patroclus directly. I suspect it was Orpheus, possibly, as he and Zag had a long heart-to-heart about Eurydice and I know Achilles dialogue mentioned talking to Orpheus. So maybe that was it.

Anyway.

I love that game a lot. There aren't a lot of games that I would like to replay -- life is too short, and the amount of games I have to play, owing to a lot of weekends spent combing the local game stores for cheap games + humble bundles + steam sales is too long -- but this is absolutely one of them. I might try to restart a run in Spanish or Italian after I finish this run, but the idea of starting over again seems daunting.

I also want to write more in this world! Playing this now reminds me that I've never written a good and proper angsty Hades/Persephone fic, and it seems really impossible to believe that I haven't considering how I've written an awful lot of those in my day for other Greek Mythology fandoms.

Hades is a lot of fun! I don't think I've finished the Achilles/Patroclus quest myself, and wasn't sure what to do to make progress in it either. Maybe I'll return to Hades sometime (your idea about playing it in another language is cool! I'm studying Japanese and have a game or two on my "games to replay in Japanese" list, but hadn't considered Hades as a possible candidate.)
