I'm trying to do a better job of keeping track of my writing this year. As in January, I’ve been tracking my writing on a spreadsheet: how many words got written and in what, and at the end of the month, I’m trying to take stock of what I’ve done, what I’ve failed to do, and what I need to do going forward. I signed up for [community profile] getyourwordsout at the 200K level with the thought that would be quite a challenge given that this year is going to have a lot of interruptions to writing time.

It turns out that I may have set my bar too low, as at this point I am 41% to my goal. I am still thinking my writing will dry up for a while, but I hope it is after March. I definitively glad I have a buffer, though! I was planning for [community profile] chocolateboxcomm to be my swan song exchange-wise for a while, but three exchanges I really wanted to do popped up quickly all in a row: [community profile] once_upon_fic,[community profile] agegapexchange, [community profile] smutswap, and [community profile] hurtcomfortex.

So, uh, I guess uh May will be my swan song.

If you think I haven’t done a pretty spreadsheet for this month, you don’t know my love of color themeing:

Here's wot I worked on in February; if it's blacked out in the picture, it's something that is for an exchange or a fic-a-thon that hasn't been revealed/posted yet. Thankfully that’s not much this time!

Things I didn't count for future-me: anything for the 3-Sentence Ficathon (some< I may turn into longer things), anything for [community profile] classiclitclub.

Underneath the cut, thoughts on stuff I worked on, and stuff I should have worked on, but did not, in fact, work on, and thoughts on stuff wot I need to do better on.

I'm trying to do a better job of keeping track of my writing this year. Last year I wrote 201,725 words, which was the most I had ever written, according to Ao3.  This year I signed up for [community profile] getyourwordsout at the 200K (basic) level, which isn't any higher than what I hit last year, but given my school schedule is going to kick up a lot in March and work continues to find me overworked, I wasn't going to sign up for anything bigger than what I did. Maybe next year.

Overall, I wrote 35,782 words so far this year, which is about 17.5% of my goal. This means I have a bit of a buffer going forward, which is good, because I have two finals in February and work continues to be really hectic. I really need to get back into a schoolwork frame-of-mind, because I've def been neglecting it a bit.

Also, its an excuse to do pretty spreadsheets. SPREADSHEETS.  Here's wot I worked on in January; if its blacked out in the picture, it's something that is for an exchange or a fic-a-thon that hasn't been revealed/posted yet.

I kind of wanted to write something out on NaNoWriMo, because it's been over for six days and it's just now beginning to sink in that it's over. I managed to do 50K again, which means I've won for 3 of the 5 years I've attempted it, and I'm proud of that. It hasn't been easy to do while being in school and working full-time aside. But I'm kind of disappointed too; I've always hoped to have an actual, publishable (by fanfiction standards) fic by the end of NaNoWriMo and once again that hasn't happened. Though unlike the 50K Mass Effect hobgoblin that will Never Be Even Remotely Done, I think I will finish this one. I'm glad that at the very least, I've got sizable Bones of a fic Skeleton; it's the first three and a half parts done, out of probably ten, and now I just have to finish the rest.

As with every year, I feel like I've learned a couple things:
