Good morning! Since a lot of new faces are coming to Dreamwidth (including me, to be honest, beyond my exchange letters), I figured it was probably a good idea to try to try to fill out an intro on who I am and what I do.

I'm acequeenking, and I'm acequeenking pretty much everywhere (unless its taken, then I get creative):

I write fanfiction and meta and generally am a blabbermouth about...most things, really. Most of my fandom stuff is unlocked, but anything personal is flocked.

Here's my policy on some stuff:

Friending Policy: Feel free to friend/subscribe/follow as you wish; if you say hello, I'm more likely to add you back. I generally do try to comment on other people's journals and reply to entries on my own but I am not always the fastest person doing so. I try to only friend those over 18+ because my journal is not a minor-friendly space at times. (I do try to give warning if I talk about anything that's particularly adultish, but I'm an adult living an adult life, and I'm not going to limit what I talk about to be friendly for children when there are other, better websites for kiddos.)

Transformative works policy: I give blanket permission for anyone to: remix, translate, or create fanworks inspired by any fanfiction or fandom meta I've written. It's not necessary to ask me permission or link me (and I can't promise to comment on it if you do), but I'm always game to share fandom thoughts and have more content out there. I do try to link back most of the time if possible (eg on Ao3).

Locked/Unlocked policy: If a post is friends-locked, I'd appreciate you not spreading it around the internet. Odds are, it was f-locked for a reason.

A Non-Exclusive List of Fandoms and Characters that I Talk About:

acequeenking: Out of an old Tekken 2 manga. (Kazuya ALL GOING ACCORDING TO KEIKAKU)

I am sorry this is basically now a Tekken journal for a bit.

Basic non-spoiler things:

- The storymode in this is simple shounen anime but it, as the children say, "eats." Is it stupid at times? Yes, but mostly in a fun way. I appreciate a lot that this one actually does move the story forward in a way Tekken 7 and Tekken 6, even, at times, did not. Feels like the story is getting out of the rut it was stuck in for a while.

- KAZUYA FANS, THEY DIDN'T FUCK UP KAZUYA. I REPEAT, NAMCO DID NOT FUCK UP KAZUYA. I was worried about it, I think we were all worried about it. But Kazuya fans get SO MUCH GOOD FOOD. A Kazuya smorgasbord. Would I have wanted more Kazuya? Of course. If it were up to me, Tekken 1-8 would entirely be about Kazuya and so would Tekken 9 be, too. I am a  spiders georg of Kazuya stans. I should not be counted on to give you accurate accounts of how much Kazuya is too much. But I think Namco did a very good job and that his character remains true to what he always has been -- but gets new nuance too.

- Lee Chaolan fans will be happy. As a Lee Chaolan fan, I am happy at least. I think this is the most plot relevant he's been in years and he's not JUST running around yelling excellent. Also his house is a stage. And it's fantastic.

- I actually felt weirdly proud of Lee and Kazuya in a weird way??? Having related to them as teenagers, watching them all grown up now (and then some lol Lee is 48, Kaz is 50) watching them doing things in story mode, I got kinda misty???? Wild.

- Jin is gonna be love it or hate it and I think a lot of it will depend on how much you loved T6 Jin or hated him. He's very pretty either way, though, truly his daddy's boy (haha). Some nice moments with friends that will make good ship material for the Jin babes.

- Lars got his pretty face back and we're all happy about it after the ugly stick he got smacked with in Tekken 7.

- Jun is very pretty and her and Asuka have been pretty heavily retooled to accommodate two Kazamas. Jun's style is more flowy, traditional Kzama style and Asuka is now the Kazama bruiser. Jun is REALLY lovely and I hope she stays in the storyline both because of her role and because she's really fun to play (and, for the first time, a fucking TANK lmfao she will probably get balanced down, she is better than Kazuya OR Jin).

I have THINGS to say about her STORY but I will say her special match opener/closer with Kazuya is literally perfect.

- I hate Asaka's new outfit but it's leagues better than her Tekken 7 one. :) Everyone else is fucking fantastic in outfits.

- Gameplay is v. good and v. hard. I am still not very good at this series all these years later. But I keep trying. *laugh* If you want to play with me, I would love to play with you and show off...my pretty outfits I've made instead of getting better at the game lol.

acequeenking: Out of an old Tekken 2 4koma. (Kazuya and Heihachi)
I'm going to be honest, I kind of forgot this existed. Oops. I rediscovered its existence thanks to [personal profile] eggsbenedict and got snowed in over the weekend so what a time to start it!

We open with Kazuya in profile. "What is it that haunts you? Whose eyes peer at you from the dark?" his voice asks.

Ho-kay, Kazuya. I See We're Bringing the Son of Satan vibe early here. He looks into the abyss, and the abyss opens its eyes as Devil stares back.

Kazuya stands in front of Devil! Kazuya's eyes, which stare down at his human form.

And god damn if I don't love it.

As it opens, it becomes obvious this is a Tekken 3 adaptation as baby! Jin is being picked on by bullies. I was really surprised by this. Tekken 3 came out in 1999! It's literally 22 years old! I suppose it shouldn't be that much of a surprise considering Tekken 7 (2017) focused primarily on events that happened before Tekken 1 (1994)? Anyway, I'm down with it. This is one of my favorite "canon events we got thirty seconds of an intro clip and two paragraphs in a manual on" (that is what passed for fighting game story in 1999).

Anyway, poor Jin. :( The show opens with him being beaten up by some kids who make fun of the fact he's a country bumpkin and he lives alone with his mom. Jin gets angry and starts beating them up after they talk shit about his mom (including taking one kid's tooth clean out of his mouth -- yikes).more under the cut, TW for a screenshot of a tooth with a lil' blood on it )

Decided to replay Tekken 7's story mode because I guess I Just Am Real Lost in That Sweet Tekken Sauce right now.

Some fun observations I just wanted to jot down, mostly Kazuya and Kazumi-centric because in this house, we support big bara titty men and their mama's wrongs:

* Baby! Kazuya wears his gi identically to his dad, with the gi jacket tied at the waist and the arms ripped off. :(

* Kazuya's Tekken 1 default karate outfit (the white pants and all red accessories) clearly seems meant to echo Kazumi's gi? Jeez I bet Heihachi shat a fucking brick when Kazuya showed up for the Tekken 1. Talk about sending a message.

* Kazumi's family is from Kyoto! And...not counting her direct descendants, probably extinct. :( The journalist mentions he can't find any of the clan in Kyoto except for an old man who was once a servant and later Kazuya asks Akuma is he's "a Hachijo relic". Makes me sad. Jin and Kazuya never got to connect with the side of their family that could have helped them with the whole demonic possession thing and instead grew up increasingly alone and isolated. :(

* Kazumi's demon form is based on a female ogre but also has some nods to Kazuya and Jin's devil! forms: the bright red eyes, the weird rocky lumps emerging from the skin, the goat (?) horns. Her possession seems closer to Jin's in that she's often unaware of it.

* Kazuya calls his mother ka-san as a child, but haha as an adult. Which might be the first time he's ever used humble speech LOL But...Kind of sad that Kazuya even uses haha when talking about her with his father. Kinda interesting to me that he uses ka-san when he was a relatively aristocratic kid? In contrast, I think Jin always refers to Jun as  oka-san, even as an adult.

* Related: Kazuya never calls his father tou-san here and I think that's consistent through the series? Neither does Jin. Not in this game because Jin himself is BARELY in this game, but I've noticed Kazuya also recognizes Jin as his son but only in the weirdest, most opaque ways possible: "the blood I gave you"; "the other half of myself". Seems very hesitant to see Jin as a person instead of a convenient demon-power-up.

* Although she has no age given, Kazumi's noticeably quite a bit younger than Heihachi in the two flashback illustrations of them. Also, I am dying that in the happy family illustration, they have put plump little literal baby Kazuya in a gi. He's like three months old, guys. Maybe wait til he can walk?

* Kazumi "dotes" on baby Kazuya and calls him her angel. Heihachi says she coddles him but LBR Heihachi's idea of coddling is probably "she picks up the baby when he's crying."

*No love lost between Kazuya and Heihachi, ever: Kid! Kazuya refers to Heihachi derogatorily, kisama. Granted, kid Kazuya is also yelling in that moment that Heihachi murdered his mom, but i think between that, the massive BOOT that Heihachi gives Kid! Kazuya to his face that slams him across the ground several feet, and Kazuya's complete lack of surprise at his dad beating the shit out of him, and Heihachi's complete lack of expression when he tries to kill baby! Kaz... I think it's pretty heavily inferred Heihachi was already abusing or at least resenting Kazuya even before Kazumi died. :(

- Kid! Kaz has the Worst Year Ever at Age 5: his grandpa is locked up and starved to death in Hon Maru (which we know he knew about because he knew where Jinpachi was buried in T5), his mother is killed by Heihachi (and he finds out about that as a kid and tries to confront him on it), and he gets tossed off a cliff by his father in an attempt to murder him. Heihachi's actions are just chilling in the Kid! Kaz section, because he says nothing to Kazuya except insults and "maybe your next life will be better." (Which as a side bar to this sidebar I will say makes what he said to the Journalist about wanting to know if Kazuya had Kazumi's genes a huge crock of shit, because it's very clear in the Kid! Kaz/Hei scene that Heihachi's intention was to murder the kid. Though he let him live afterwards, I think that's more that Kid! Kazuya probably was an enticing weapon for him than any kind of paternal love).

* I really cannot fathom how horrible Kazuya's childhood was after grandpa and mom were gone and he was left alone (?) in the house with a murderer until Lee Chaolan was adopted. But that said, Kazuya's baby note telling Heihachi that he'll tear him to pieces is both a) deeply concerning and should have gotten Kazuya into a psychologist a lot sooner and b) hysterical that HEIHACHI KEPT IT ALL THOSE YEARS. HEIHACHI IS 75 AND DUDE STILL HAD KAZUYA'S FIRST MURDER THREAT.

* Heihachi yelling that he's back in charge so lets do a new Tekken tournament and then two chapters later later being like THE TOURNAMENT IS OFF TELL THEM I DIED both makes this the second Tekken game without a Tekken tournament in the plot and is also literally me whenever I throw a party. And since there was no Tekken 7 tournament and Heihachi really is dead, does that mean that no one is running the Zaibatsu now? Did Kaz not directly take over it, just for old time's sake?

* G Corp's Millennium Tower and the Mishima Zaibatsu HQ are visible from one another in Tokyo, which makes me laugh. Kazuya and Jin def spent a lot of time makin' eye lasers across the block from one another in Tekken 6.

* Kazuya sparing his underlings from Akuma shows him to be a much better/more tactical leader than Nina or Heihachi, who both treat their troops as much more disposable.

* Kazuya is genuinely, deeply saddened for a minute that his mom put out a hit on him. He covers his eyes with his hand and takes a couple deep breaths...before laughing hysterically.

* Akuma is the worst friend ever. Kazumi tells you "hey, murder my husband if I fail to do it! And my son, too, if he turns out more like his dad!" and then Akuma just waits fucking 50 god damn years. Like, legit let Heihachi abuse the shit out of, then murder Kaz - slept on that.Kazuya invades Hokkaido? ZZZZZZZZZ.  Legit let Heihachi turn the Zaibatsu into a massive military - SLEPT ON THAT. Let's Jin start WW3 with Kaz once he "got better"? Eh, wasn't in his purview to hurt Jin. Telling them OH I WAS JUST WAITING UNTIL YOU WERE AT YOUR STRONGEST - Heihachi's strongest is at 74 as an balls-old man?! Kazuya hasn't been at his strongest since Tekken 2 since he lost half of his demon power to Jin.

Okay, I kinda suspect the Tekken canon/story is just so hosed that there's just no good answer to this but uh, do we know how possessed Kazuya Mishima is?

I mean, I know the answer is yes this man is chock full of Devil but how much control does he have over Devil?

I've been trying to figure this out for Fic Reasons, because wow did the Tekken 8 trailer bring this fandom roaring back to me at full interest, and it's bugging me. Below is the evidence I can find: in which I try and fail to make sense of the Tekken rules on demonic possession... )

Dear sweet sugar candy person,

Thank you for writing for me! I am looking forward to seeing whatever you create! I consider all prompts optional, but I added some below in case they might be helpful. So these were my goals from last year:

Drink 64oz of water every day (24 + 24 + 12)

- This one is a kinda. I....sometimes did do this and sometimes did not. More often than not I got somewhere around the middle and then fell off. For a while I was really hitting it well and then just not so much. Overall this was probably the goal I was most successful with and even that is like...half credit.

Exercise at least half an hour 5 times a week

Hahaha no. I was able to get to a pretty regular pace where I started off three times a week, sometimes hit four or five, and I was able to keep that for like...most of the year. In October, after my mom had to be rushed to teh hospital, I really fell off the exercise bandwagon and I think I've only exercised a few times since then.

Use this journal at least 1x a week.

HARD FAIL. I didn't have the spoons for it, I'm sorry. Not only did I vanish from this but also Tumblr and Twitter so hey I feel like I got a platinum trophy in fading into the background.

Try to go to bed by 11pm every night instead of 12am or later.

Mostly fail. I really struggled with this one and towards the end of the year my bedtime has been closer to 2 than 11pm. Bad. I really want to reform this one in the new year because my sleep is, still, suffering for it. So this one I will carry on into the new year for sure.

Try something out of my media list of things to check out at least once a week.

Mostly fail. I did so little I am going to go through and talk about what I thought about all the media I watched on my lists from last year now:

Hades

Short entry, but I played a little bit of Hades today and I have to say how much I love this game. It is a dangerous game to me because its very easy for me to lose track of time, to say one more run and then to not mean it, to ignore other things because I'm so enraptured with Zagreus and his family.

But man, I missed this game, and coming back into it, I'm reminded of why. I'm in the post-credits part of the game, where Zag's relationships are well-established, and playing it just feels like a nice, warm hug.

Also, as a happy note, somehow -- after probably twenty runs worth of being totally stuck -- I finally got Achilles to advance in the Achilles/Patroclus quest. I wish I knew what made it finally move toward; it had to be a bit of dialogue from someone else, but no one seems to mention Achilles and Patroclus directly. I suspect it was Orpheus, possibly, as he and Zag had a long heart-to-heart about Eurydice and I know Achilles dialogue mentioned talking to Orpheus. So maybe that was it.

Anyway.

I love that game a lot. There aren't a lot of games that I would like to replay -- life is too short, and the amount of games I have to play, owing to a lot of weekends spent combing the local game stores for cheap games + humble bundles + steam sales is too long -- but this is absolutely one of them. I might try to restart a run in Spanish or Italian after I finish this run, but the idea of starting over again seems daunting.

I also want to write more in this world! Playing this now reminds me that I've never written a good and proper angsty Hades/Persephone fic, and it seems really impossible to believe that I haven't considering how I've written an awful lot of those in my day for other Greek Mythology fandoms.

This is part of a series I'm gonna do this week, detailing Things I Want to Experience this year: books to read, plays/shows/movies to watch, games to play, music to listen to, etc. These lists are by no means exclusive and being a flighty creature it is likely I either won't get to all of these items or may wind up reading other things instead of/in addition to the ones listed below, but I'm gonna try to get to these and want to look back at the end of the year and see how successful I was at getting through these things.

Base rules on this project: No more than 10 things can be listed. Series can be listed as Series in order to not tie up the entire list with multiple entries. Experiencing at least one thing in a series will count as fulfilling the item. If it's something I started in 2021 but did not finish, it will be put on the list as Continuing: [Name]; otherwise, the item is new to me.

Continuing: Star Trek: TNG + Star Trek: DS9: I really like the Star Trek I’ve seen, but I got to season 7 and didn’t want Star Trek: TNG to end, so I’ve been paused on the last few episodes for like five years now. I think its time to open it up, to go ahead and let it end. I paused DS9 somewhere in the 4th season but I’d like to finish it as well.

Continuing: Discovery of Witches: This is so much better to me than the books it was based on, and it really gained a lot in the translation and most of that is that they really went all out with giving people outside the main pairing a lot more camera time and it’s really done a much better service of building out the whole world instead of just the Matthew/Diana story. I’ve seen all of Season 1, bits of Season 2, and I am hoping to catch up in time to see Season 3.

Ghosts (BBC): I’ve seen most of the American Ghosts with my parents and it was a really cute little show, with a woman who inherits an old mansion and, after suffering a near-death experience, also inherits all the ghosts that live within it. I didn’t know there was a BBC version, but I’m eager to see it!

Xena: I’ve seen this in bits and pieces over the years, but never really seen the whole show. I only know a few things about the final seasons of it: it’s got lesbians, it’s got Ragnarök-but-Greek-sorta, and it got super fucking weird and these are all things I’m down for. Plus I’d like to actually know enough of this to be able to request/treat for this in exchanges at some point since it actually pops up every once in a while.

Continuing: Ted Lasso: I’ve got a free apple trial and naturally I binged this and I just have to say I love Roy and Keeley and lovely Sam with all my heart. I’m def going to finish season 2 and hopefully make it to season 3, though I’ll probably have to pay for it for a bit.

Underground Railroad: I really want to see this one! I liked the book this is based on – about a runaway slave in the 1880s, and a more-literal-than-usual underground railroad. It’s a book that avoids some of the uncomfortable slavery porn that seems to pervade a lot of attempts to write about this period, but it also doesn’t shy away from showing how ever-fucking-present slavery and the threat of being caught as a slave was. Also, Amber Gray’s in this, and I want to see her break my heart again.Read more... )

FANDOM SNOWFLAKE CHALLENGE #3: In your own space, put some favorite characters into an AU, fuse some favorite canons together, talk about your favorite AU/fusion tropes, or tell us why AU/fusions aren’t your cup of tea.

In general, I prefer AUs that tend hew closer to canon, but as of late, I have been branching out, putting some time in on what I would call setting-swap AUs, where the canon universe was, idk, eaten by a black hole or something and now everyone is baristas (roll with it). This is new to me and in general I'm slow moving in it, as I am slow in consuming fandom content in general.

But here are my top 5 AU types:

1. Canon Divergence/For Want of a Nail AUs: I really fucking love a good what if? This was my favorite genre when I was a kid and it remains so as an adult: What if Darth Vader realized Leia was his daughter on Bespin in Empire Strikes Back? What if Padme didn't die of sadness at the end of ROTS? What if Persephone didn't eat the seeds? So much depends on such small decisions sometimes. I really love these AUs absolutely best. Especially when such a small decision ripples out into a huge change. Many Vader & Leia fanfic falls into this trope and I love each and every one, especially when the Leia has lived past ROTJ, gotten past her feelings on Vader, on the Empire, and is now thrown right back to her youth.

2. Fusions: Fandom fusions are tricky; generally, you have to know both canons (or at least elements of both canons) to really be able to enjoy them. But when they work, they really work. I feel like its one of the hardest to get right, but seeing how people tie together universes really makes it super neat to see a good fusion AU flourish. It's not often I'm in a mass effect mood, but often when I am, I think of an AU proposed by an old friend of mine, where everyone had a pokemon daemon. I still think her choice for Saren, a Skarmory, remains fitting.

3. IN SPAAAAAAAACE AU: Probably my favorite setting swap: in space, the consequences are always higher, the dangers are always bigger, the world is always weirder. I feel like this really can highlight fun character details when you try to translate a more mundane setting into sci-fi spaceworld; what would Ted Lasso be in space? How would you translate the soccer to something capable of being done on a spaceship? There was a fun thing going in a hadestown discord I haunt last year when Among US AU's were the rage, which poked fun lightly at canonical events and seeing how they married Greek mythology with space age times and tech was truly a delight.

4. Mythology/Folkloric AU: I'm sorry, y'all are sleeping on this. I don't see it done often, but this is one of my favorite AUs, where canonical characters and/or events are eventually made into in-universe folklore, and the story we get is one that's been shifted through hundreds and thousands of mirrors, decades or even centuries past the original event(s). It's a pretty rare genre, but I've seen it a couple times in Doctor Who fanfiction. My absolute favorite is this fanfic, where Rose Tyler searches for the doctor, doesn't find him (or, the right him, at any rate), and ultimately becomes the Doctor herself.

5. Dystopian AUs: Post 2020, this is more of a legacy category, because it's gotten harder for me to read oppressively Grim-dark worlds. (I still love darkfic, but it's gone down to a kind of not-now sort of space; it's harder for me to read when the world feels dark and grim.) But I read so much of this as a teenager, as an adult, that it would feel odd not putting this on my list anymore. I love a good oppressive grim-dark where people still have hope, still get up, still make the coffee. One of my favorite AUs for Mass Effect is imagining what happens post-Refusal ending: sure, the universe is going dark, but that doesn't mean Shepard is going to let it go dark while s/he can still fight to make it a better place. It's not a perfect world and its often a sad one, but I'm touched by the idea of someone knowing a bad end, and keeping on fighting it, even knowing it may be pointless. Also, frankly, I feel like a lot of my teenage ID was fed by enemies-to-lovers "We Hate One Another But the Magistry/Government/Convenient Excuse Dictates We Must Wed, Somehow" trope that was everywhere in the early 00s, and still influences a lot of the push/pull factor in relationships that I write today.

Fandom Snowflake Challenge #2In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

My Personal Goals are here! (F-locked.)

The fannish ones are simple and short so I’m going to just leave them here:

1.      To leave more comments: I feel like in 2022 commenting on fic has fallen off a freaking cliff in most of the fandoms I’m in, and I know I’m part of the problem because I read rarely and as a result comment less. I’m really hoping after February (I’m booked solid through then with Real Life Responsibilities), I’ll be able to actually comment and read more. I’d especially like to do this in Hadestown because I feel like I haven’t read anything in the fandom since 2019 unless it was written for me, yikes.

2.      To be more active on DW/Tumblr: Similar to the other one. Just not enough time for it, and I’m really hoping later in the spring I’ll be able to at least keep up with re-blogging and promoting other people here/there.

I'm also trying to do the snowflake challenge where you get more meta from me than you probably cared to read! Starting late, so I'll just say I updated my intro post here!

(This is part of a series I'm gonna do this week, detailing Things I Want to Experience this year: books to read, plays/shows/movies to watch, games to play, music to listen to, etc.

Tick Tick Boom: I’ve heard exactly one song from this, “Green, Green Dress”, never saw the show somehow, and all I know is that a) this is a musical and b) it’s gotten good reviews as far as musicals go, in a year that didn’t happen a lot of them. It feels like it has a LOT of cameos I’d enjoy at the very least...

Clash of the Titans and Wrath of the Titans (is this technically a series?): Look, I have never seen these movies. I do not think Liam Nieson or Ralph Fienes was well cast. But the first movie has the INSANE SPARKLY ARMOR that inspired a brief internet meme before we called it that, and the second movie makes the insanely weird choice of going: you know what? Let’s make a movie all about Hades’ daddy issues, because somewhere in the Midwest, there’s a bitch who is clambering for that, and she will go see it. And lo their plan failed for I did not realize there was a sequel to a movie I never watched, and lo I had not seen it, but I have heard of it now and I feel a weird obligation to see it because honestly there will never be another movie focused on Hades and Cronus relationship pretty much ever again.

Annette: You will probably look at this and you will probably go ah she wants to see it for Adam Driver. And no, I don’t want to see it for Adam Driver. I want to see it because this thing is bonkers. It has a puppet baby!!! It’s a musical! It’s a musical with the guy from Star Wars and a puppet baby.

Brown Girl Begins – Somehow there was a movie prequel to Brown Girl in the Ring that was made in Canada?? It came out four years ago and evidently barely landed in America? Anyway young girl in the Caribbean becomes a reluctant priestess to save her people and that is exactly the sort of trope I am here for.Read more... )

Continuing: Judgment series: This is a series with two games, and I’m somewhere around Chapter 4 of the original game (Judgment). I need to refresh myself on the plot (and am debating starting over because I only remember some of it), but then I’m looking forward to the continuing adventures. Doubt I’ll beat both games (Lost Judgment is still too new to go on deep discount yet, when I usually buy my games), but I’d love to finish Judgment this year.

Continuing: Hades: In a lot of ways, if I were ever going to have a game custom-made for me, that game would have been Hades: set in ancient Greek mythos with a focus on my favorite area of it, family-focused, lets you be a bisexual short king. I’ve gotten to the point where there isn’t a lot of content left in the game and I’m doing the Thing I Do where I go “I should preserve this for later” but I really want to power through it and actually finish it so I can write more fanfic in this universe.

Continuing: Yakuza series: I finished Yakuza 0 in 2020 and it was pretty much the only game I finished that year! I’ve picked up several games in the series since in PlayStation sales and I would like to at least finish Yakuza 1 this year. I’ve heard it’s both exciting and sad and I’m both excited and dreading that. Majima and Kiryu both own my heart in different ways, and even though the series sometimes makes me grimace, it's also a lot of fun and strangely heart-moving. I don't tend to like mafia movies but it turns out I sure do enjoy Yakuza games.

Unavowed: I loved the two games in the Blackwell series I’ve played from this studio and I’ve been in the mood for a point-and-click. I saw a 30 minute preview of this one on Giant Bomb I think, ages ago? It looks so good. I love how this studio’s games tend to be on the shorter side so I’m hopeful I will actually finish this one. It looks like a fun urban-fantasy/crime focused game, and while that genre is popular in lit (and I've read a lot of it), it's not so usual in games and I'd really like to see where this goes.

Continuing: Blackwell series: I really loved the first two games in this series; I kinda ship Joey and both the Blackwells? (I mean, not at the same time, obviously.) I have three to go and am looking forward to playing them. I would like to finish at least 1 in 2022. Thankfully, these games are kinda short, so I might actually have a chance of clearing them: I think most of these can be finished in 3-6 hours which is a very adult-friendly play-time.
